Effect of molecular weight and its distribution on the properties and structure of Polypropylene fiber

Properties and structure of drawn polypropylene fiber made of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) with different molecular weight and distribution were investigated. iPP with two melt flow indices (4 and 20 g/10 min) were employed. iPP polymerized by two catalysts (metallocene and Ziegler-Natta) were applied to each melt flow index. The drawn fiber was made by melt-spinning and hot drawing. Mechanical and creep properties were measured. The drawn fiber made of iPP with a higher molecular weight and smaller distribution showed fewer macro voids and higher tensile strength.
