Automobile Grille(Comparison of steel and PP constructions)
Automotive grilles made of plastic rather than steel have been shown conclusively to be much safer to pedestrians during vehicle-pedestrian accidents. Using CAE we are able to design safer, less rigid products that greatly decrease load transfers to the human body. This analysis shows that the steel product generates a load of 2,000 kgf while the equivalent polypropylene product generates a maximum load of just 700 kgf. The analysis demonstrates the significant deformation-properties of the PP grille which allows the vast majority of the force loads to be transferred away from the body.
Collision speed is 15km/hr. Dummy weight is 70kg. Dummy height is 170cm.
