Today, most air-cleaner cases for automobiles are made of plastic rather than steel, and so it is very important to understand how the vibrations of the engine will affect their structural integrity, particularly at the hard-attachment points to the engine.

In this CAE analysis, we are able to accurately predict the stress loads imparted to the air-cleaner case and then make critical changes to the design to improve its durability. By adding an additional rib and increasing the thickness of the walls of the case, stress levels imparted to the air-cleaner case were reduced dramatically.
